Southampton are offering Jose Fonte a new two-year contract amid interest from Manchester United, according to reports.
The Portuguese defender has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks after suggesting he was flattered by links with the club.
He is also said to be on Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s radar as they look to bolster their defensive options for the new season.
ESPN reported earlier in the week that Man United are eager to offload Maros Rojo to make space on the squad for Fonte at Old Trafford.
Southampton will be looking to keep hold of Fonte this campaign and their hopes are an improved two-year contract will keep him at the club.
Rojo hasn’t been able to win over fans since his arrival and in all honesty I believe Fonte’s arrival would be a significant upgrade on the Argentinian’s services.
His career is heading on the right track after he helped Portugal to the Euro 2016 victory and played a vital role for the Saints squad, but if Man United come calling would he be able to say no?
