Manchester United inform interested clubs Phil Jones will stay at Old Trafford – report

Manchester United have told interested clubs Phil Jones will stay at Old Trafford this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old had attracted interest from Premier League sides such as Stoke, Watford and Hull City as they looked to capitalise on his exclusion from Jose Mourinho’s first-team squads so far.

He was keen to play a role under the Portuguese boss and is allegedly weighing up his options in the earlier weeks of the season before discussing a potential transfer.

Mourinho has told the Englishman he will play with Man United this campaign, but a move could all depend on how much first-team action he is able to pick up.

Jones hasn’t been able to make his mark on the side since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, despite being tipped by the former boss as a player with the ability to become one of Man United’s best ever players.

He only made 10 Premier League appearances last season after an injury-plagued campaign and has still not made Mourinho’s match day squad after the club’s first two games of the season.

A move could benefit both parties, but if he wants to salvage his career at Old Trafford he’ll need to prove himself when the Portuguese boss hands him an opportunity.
