Jose Mourinho: I like Cameron Borthwick-Jackson but there wasn’t any space at Man United

Jose Mourinho insists he likes Cameron Borthwick-Jackson but doesn’t have the space to play him at Manchester United this season.

The 19-year-old enjoyed an impressive breakthrough campaign last year under Louis van Gaal but will be featuring in the Championship this year.

Mourinho has plenty of defensive options this season and highlighted his players with Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind available to feature at left-back.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the Hull City fixture, Mourinho claims it’s a tough decision every club has to make.

“Twenty-three players is more than enough and, if you have a problem or an opportunity, then I have a few young players in the Academy that I will be more than happy to give an acceleration in their process,” he said.

“I like Cameron Borthwick-Jackson very much but he will go to Wolverhampton to play [on loan] because I have Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind to play left-back. These are the kind of decisions every club makes.”

Borthwick-Jackson showcased plenty of potential during his debut season and it makes sense for him to go on loan this campaign as he’ll be picking up game time that wouldn’t be available at Old Trafford.

Mourinho has shown his faith in Borthwick-Jackson previously as the Englishman’s contract renewal was one of his first points of action when he was appointed as manager in May.

Hopes are his loan spell works out, as he’ll provide excellent competition for Luke Shaw at left-back when he returns and is set for a big future at Man United.
