Manchester United target Fabinho likely remain at Monaco – report

Manchester United target Fabinho is likely to stay at Monaco this season, according to reports.

It was reported last week that Fabinho had made an agreement with the club that stated he was free to leave Monaco if they reached the Champions League group stages. And after Leonardo Jardim’s side edged past Villarreal, it seemed as if Mourinho had received a green light to move for the right back.

Speaking to L’Equipe last week, the Brazilian refused to rule out a move to Man United, claiming he was “not certain of staying” at Monaco. However, according to Sky Sports’ Bryan Swanson, Fabinho is likely to stay put in France ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.

Much like Eric Bailly, Fabinho, 22, possesses a level of brutalism and power that belies his age. His immense stature, excellent control and unyielding work rate would serve him well in the Premier League.

However, with Antonio Valencia – empowered by Mourinho’s emphasis on fast, dynamic attacking football, alongside having someone to aim at in the form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic – looking irreplaceable, Fabinho would be sacrificing a guaranteed starting place for a battle with Matteo Darmian over the second choice right back spot at Old Trafford.

But having secured his four ‘fundamental signings’, alongside boasting a 100% record as we enter the international break, Mourinho won’t be too mortified at losing out on the Brazilian.
