Will Keane has sent a farewell message to Manchester United fans after he joined Hull City on deadline day.
The 23-year-old broke into the first-team in 2011, making his debut against Blackburn Rovers from the bench, but only went on to manage two senior appearances due to a long string of injuries thwarting his momentum.
Keane completed his move Hull on deadline day, reuniting with Mike Phelan once again for a fee of £1m.
The striker posted a message on his Instagram after completing his move, signing off by saying: “I’ll forever by a red at heart. Thanks for everything!”
Football is a cruel game, and sometimes certain things are just not meant to be. And such is the case with Keane, a regular goalscorer at youth level for a number of years, but for some reason cruelly denied a chance to excel in the first-team through injury.
His debut against Blackburn was soon followed by a serious ligament injury, whilst his one and only appearance under Louis van Gaal lasted just five minutes after the striker, introduced on 71 minutes, rocketed a shot against the post before pulling up. It was as if the world was gently informing Keane that, try as he might, a career at Old Trafford was never going to materialise.
