Eric Bailly has been voted as Manchester United’s Player of the Month for the month for August after thousands of supporters voted through the club’s official website.
He was signed from Spanish club Villareal during the summer transfer window and was Jose Mourinho’s first signing at Old Trafford.
The 22-year old was relatively unknown at the time of his transfer, but two months into the season, the Ivorian has already shown exactly why the club paid his hefty price tag.
He secured 55% of the votes, beating off Zlatan Ibrahimovic (who placed second securing 37% votes).
Players and fans alike, know the Premier League is one of the most toughest leagues in the world, not only is it physically demanding, but it is also a league which is full of uncertainties. Leicester City winning the title last season goes to show exactly what one can expect in this competition.
Ordinarily players coming to England take a while to settle down, but Bailly is no ordinary player. He made his United debut in a 2-1 win over Leicester for the Community Shield and has started all three of United’s league matches.
The United powerhouse has won three man of the match awards out of the four games United have played so far, showcasing the ability he possesses.
Bailly told MUTV recently: “The Man-of-the-Match awards are something I hadn’t thought about but I got them through the hard work I have put in. I hope to see more of that in the weeks ahead of us.”
He is exactly what United needed after the departure of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic – and with the kind of form he is in, it will be interesting to see him battle it out with top strikers in the league.
