Slaven Bilic: West Ham would have signed Paul Pogba if it was possible

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic admitted he would have signed Paul Pogba if he had the appropriate financial muscle.

Pogba shook the footballing world last month after completing a world record £89m move to Manchester United from Juventus.

The 23-year-old has made a bold start to life at Manchester United, and recently outlined his desire to claim the Ballon d’Or during his time at Old Trafford.

Speaking with Essex Live, Bilic claimed that, if he had the financial means, Pogba would have topped his list of transfer targets.

“I don’t want to sound naive or a hypocrite but if we could sign Pogba, we would have signed Pogba make no mistake,” he said.

“Then I would be the first to say if everybody cuts, let’s cut. It’s crazy, it’s a way too crazy market. It’s big game fishing and for that you need tools. You can’t expect to get a shark with a rod for a small fish.”

Thanks for that, Slaven. I would’ve bought a 300ft yacht if I had the means. But that’s life, I suppose.

On a serious note, the fact that opposition managers are not just discussing Pogba (even though it is a rule of thumb to not discuss other players) but actively praising him is a huge testament to the sheer aura of omnipotence he brings to the Premier League.

This is perhaps the first time a genuine superstar – someone with the world at his feet – has not ended up at either Barcelona or Real Madrid for a number of years, and those in the Premier League can’t suppress their admiration of the 23-year-old.
