Jose Mourinho insists some of his Manchester United players disappointed him against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Before the game he claimed the pair could provide him with some different attacking options, but both had extremely poor showings and had fans urging the boss to take them off.
When asked if he picked the wrong team, Mourinho stated some of the players didn’t give him what he wanted.
“Look, I have two or three players in the first half who if I know what was going to happen I would not play them,” he said.
“Sometimes players disappoint managers.
“They didn’t give me what I want. It’s their fault it’s my fault.”
Many were surprised to see Lingard involved in the squad, especially with Anthony Martial sat on the bench, even with the Frenchman’s recent dip in form.
But Mkhitaryan was a name fans were excited to see in action, especially after he was being eased into football by Mourinho, but it looks like it was too soon to bring him back into action after his thigh injury.
While it was a disappointing loss, there is still plenty of time left in the season and it will come as a lesson to the Portuguese boss and his side.
