Manchester City 2-1 Manchester United: Player Ratings

by Tanveer Arayan

David de Gea 6 – Hardly called into action. Wasn’t to blame for the De Bruyne or Iheanacho goal and was solid otherwise.

Luke Shaw 7* Man of the Match – Sensational once again, was strong defensively and provided the attacking runs we learned to love him for last season, very surprised as it doesn’t look like he’s missed a year of football.

Eric Bailly 5 – Wasn’t anywhere near as good as he has been in recent games for United and his miscommunication with Blind cost United early. It’s disappointing because his partnership with the Dutchman has been consistently superb before the derby.

Daley Blind 5 –  Extremely undeceive in the first-half, his mistake which let Kevin De Bruyne through on goal, looked like miscommunication between himself and Bailly. It’s a shame because we know what he is capable of, but today he seemed out of the game.

Antonio Valencia 7 – Looks extremly comfortable at right-back and has done an excellent job of making the role his own.

Marouane Fellaini 6 – What can I say? He looks like a new player and has done a brilliant job to link up with Pogba and cement his place in the side.

Paul Pogba 5 – Often looked isolated in midfield, but still offered plenty for United when he was called upon.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 4 – Seems like he was rushed back into action after enduring an injury and didn’t look ready to return with a disappointing Premier League debut.

Wayne Rooney 3 – Nothing short of woeful in the first-half. He was very sloppy with possession and fans were left urging Mourinho to take him off the pitch.

Jesse Lingard 3 – He doesn’t look confident on the ball at all, he was often dispossessed on the wing and wasn’t able to make a mark on the game.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 7 – Scored United’s first goal to get us back into the game, showcasing his brilliant technique and has continued his run of four goals in just as many Premier League appearances. However, made a few mistakes throughout the game, had the chance to score once again just before the second-half and also took Rashford’s goal offside.

Marcus Rashford 7 – Subbed on at the start of the second-half and completely changed the dynamic in attack for United. Was close to making an instant impact.

Ander Herrera 6 – Delighted to see him inaction again, gave his all for United and did a wonderful job of getting the ball forward once he was subbed on.

Anthony Martial 5 – Was brought on late in the game and didn’t have enough time to make much of an impact.
