Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw, Jesse Lingard and Antonio Valencia have not been included in Jose Mourinho’s 20-man squad to travel to Rotterdam for Manchester United’s opening Europa League match away to Feyenoord.
Man United kick off their Europa League campaign on Thursday evening at De Kuip for the the third-ever meeting between both sides.
It won’t be as easy as many believe with Feyenoord in excellent form following five wins from their opening five league matches.
The players flight to Netherlands is on Wednesday afternoon and here’s a list of the players that have been included:
De Gea, Romero, Johnstone; Darmian, Bailly, Blind, Fosu-Mensah, Rojo, Smalling; Carrick, Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, Memphis, Pogba, Schneiderlin, Young; Ibrahimovic, Martial, Rashford.
Mourinho will be planning to rotate his team and make use of the full squad during a busy month of fixtures and fans should see players that haven’t featured so far this season.
Hopes are Memphis is able to take the opportunity with both hands and prove himself to the Portuguese boss, the Dutchman arrived with high expectations but hasn’t been able to live up to them, however he did show plenty of potential last season in Europe.
All four players were training on Wednesday morning and their exclusion from the squad will be a time for them to rest ahead of the Watford fixture next weekend.
