Jose Mourinho: Zlatan Ibrahimovic was phenomenal against Leicester City

Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s display as Manchester United cruised to a dominating 4-1 victory over Leicester City.

Despite not being able to get his name on the score sheet, he took charge of the side against the defending champions.

His energy on the field fueled the rest of the team and kept the momenutm going which saw Man United bag four goals in the first-half.

Speaking about Zlatan, Mourinho insisted he played fantastically.

“The team. The team. I think the team played very well,” he said.

“But you score four goals, your striker doesn’t score a goal and I think the striker plays phenomenal. I think Ibra played absolutely fantastic in the way he was keeping our attacking football and also in the starting of our pressure.

“So probably you are going in other directions [individualising], I am happy when you do that by a positive way, but I prefer to say the team as a team played well.”

Coming into the game after losing their previous two league matches, United started the game in full throttle, nailing the Foxes into the ground within the first 45 minutes.

While Ibrahimovic didn’t find a goal or an assist, his contribution cannot be overlooked, his unselfish passes and runs forward helped break through Leicester’s deference and create chances.

Whether it was pealing off defenders, darting through the opposition, or getting the ball forward, Ibrahimovic did it all and he was crucial in keeping United moving.
