Graeme Souness: Marcus Rashford is a shining light at Manchester United

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness has heaped praise on Marcus Rashford, labelling the youngster as a shining light at Manchester United.

The 18-year-old was initially consigned to the bench for the early stages of Man United’s season, but quickly imposed himself in the starting XI after producing powerful displays against Hull and Manchester City.

Rashford, following another astonishing performance against Leicester City, now has three goals in three games, taking his tally for 2016 to 12 goals (the highest of any English player).

Speaking after United’s 4-1 win over Claudio Ranieri’s side, Souness was quick to laud the youngster.

Marcus Rashford is a shining light for them. He looks like he has goals in him. He has the instinct that top players have at the right time,” he said.

As United cruised victories over Leicester, AFC Bournemouth and Southampton, one nagging question still lurked in the back of my mind: where does Rashford come in?

Such a query was, it turns out, answered in emphatic fashion. A game changing performance from the bench against Hull, followed by a hat-trick for England’s Under 21s, has led to Rashford going from a squad player to an indispensable component for Jose Mourinho.

At the ripe age of just 18, Rashford isn’t just competent at this level; no, this wonder-kid puts more experienced, established players to shame.
