Player ratings: Man United 1-0 FC Zorya

by Sam Peoples

Sergio Romero 6 – Puled off a good save in the second half when he didn’t have much else to do before it. Well done.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah 7 – Another chance for him to shine but truth be told he was questionable for periods of the game, I suppose like the rest of the team. Did play a key role in our opening goal though and grew into the match. Did well overall.

Chris Smalling 6 – Not much to say about Chris I don’t think? Didn’t do much right or wrong, didn’t much at all to be honest.

Eric Bailly 6.5 – Hard to believe he is 22 when you watch him in action to be honest. Cleaned up a lot of Zorya’s counter-attacks which were pretty dangerous.

Marcos Rojo 3 – Even Zorya Luhansk turned Rojo inside out. At what point does he just genuinely get binned?

Marouane Fellaini 5 – Not to pick scapegoats but he was just a yard or two out of position at pretty much every opportunity tonight. Clearly influenced our slow play too.

Paul Pogba 6 – Very muted first half which surprised me. Better in second though but still not what you’d expect.

Juan Mata 6 – Nowhere near as influential as he was against Leicester but the brand of football was so different that it hardly suited him at all.

Jesse Lingard 5.5 – Not the best from Lingard tonight in any respect. Not sure what was wrong with him but don’t think he played very well.

Marcus Rashford 6.5 – Came closest to scoring in the first half when his shot crashed off the bar. Dangerous for United but not enough support.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 6.5 – Poor first 45 minutes but scored the all important goal for United when we needed it which is what strikers do.

Substitutes

Wayne Rooney 6 – What an assist…not, but at least it was an assist I suppose? Poorly attempted shot turned assist thanks to Zlatan.
