Paul Scholes: Wayne Rooney is far from finished at Manchester United

Paul Scholes believes Wayne Rooney is far for finished at Manchester United and will be reinstated to the starting XI after the international break.

Rooney was left on the bench for the first-half of the Europa League tie with Zorya Luhansk, but managed to grab an assist moments after he was introduced in the second-half.

Man United play Stoke City on Sunday before the international break, but will face a string of tough fixtures when the players return and Scholes claims Rooney will be back in the team for those matches.

“He’s not in the greatest form at the minute and the timing’s right for him not to be in the team. He’s a fighter Wayne, he won’t just sit back and let this happen, he’ll be fighting to get back in this team,” he said.

“They’ve got an easy game tonight, could be an easy game on Sunday [against Stoke]. I think when them big games could round – Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City – I think we’ll see Wayne back to his best.”

His exclusion from the squad against Leicester resulted in one of the most convincing victories we’ve seen since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

Some will say he made an instant impact when he was introduced against Zorya and deserves to start against Stoke, but his assist was far from intentional.

Whether he’ll be back in the starting XI remains to be seen, but the club have gotten their Europa League campaign back on track with three valuable points.
