Jose Mourinho has confirmed Phil Jones is the only Manchester United player who is definitely set to be sidelined for the next few weeks.
Jones suffered a ligament injury in training recently and isn’t training with the first-team at the moment but there were question marks over Luke haw and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Armenian midfielder is now training with Man United once again but Shaw faces a fitness test having spent some time off ill in the last week.
“Phil Jones is the only one with an important injury and definitely out for more weeks to come,” Mourinho said.
“Micki is training now with the team. Luke is ill but hopefully he will train with the team too [on Friday]. We are fine in terms of our condition.”
Mkhitaryan is the player United fans want to see back in the team. For all his worth, Jesse Lingard simply isn’t the player Henrikh is and we signed him to bolster our attacking options, so the sooner he starts the player.
As for Shaw, I considered him absolutely indispensable this season for United but Daley Blind showed me against Leicester City that we do have an alternative, so I wouldn’t rush Shaw back in at all.
United have done well to put our three consecutive losses behind us to win three in a row off the back of it and heading into a two week international break, a win over Stoke would be a perfect way to cap off a strong two weeks for the club.
