Marcus Rashford: Wayne Rooney criticism at Manchester United is very unfair

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford insists criticism for Wayne Rooney after his performances this season is uncalled for.

Fans have urged the Portuguese boss to leave him out of the starting XI after he has struggled to contribute in attack so far from the No.10 role.

He was dropped for Man United’s 4-1 victory over Leicester City and his place in the side was put in doubt after Juan Mata put in a stunning shift from the centre of the park.

Speaking about Rooney, Rashford believes the captain still has plenty to give the side.

“Criticism about Wayne is unfair, definitely, he has won everything for this club,” he said.

“He is about to beat the club record for goals, he’s got the England appearance record and goals record, he’s got a lot of achievements and a lot of things to be proud of.

“So I just think — give him time and all this will go away.

“People just need to relax. You have to remember he started his career when he was very, very young. I think he was 16 or so.

“You can’t heap all that pressure and responsibility on one player, either.

“I don’t doubt his talent because when he plays he makes a difference to the team and his class is permanent.”

Things have gone from bad to worse for Rooney at Old Trafford, but he has managed to keep his captaincy for the England side.

He hasn’t been performing for a while now and other players on the team have proven they have more to offer Jose Mourinho.

It’ll be interesting to see how he fits back into the side as he faces faces being axed again for the club’s clash with Stoke on Sunday afternoon.
