Manchester United’s Memphis Depay named in the Netherlands squad

Memphis Depay has been included in the Netherlands squad for their upcoming fixtures over the international break.

The Dutchman was left out of their 2018 World Cup qualifiers after failing to cement his place in the side under Jose Mourinho.

He’s had a pretty forgettable start to the season so it’s come as a surprise to see him included, but it could be the perfect opportunity for him to re-launch himself in familiar territory.

Having not played much for Manchester United at all this season, he will be relishing the chance to prove himself once again.

Mourinho’s arrival at the club represented a new opportunity for Memphis to fight his way into the side, but he’s had an underwhelming start.

The Portuguese boss may not have played him very often but his performances on the pitch have not been good enough to justify his spot in the side.

Memphis is in a tricky situation at United, he needs more confidence and the only way to do that is by playing more games which won’t happen as Mourinho would prefer to play other in-form players in his position.
