Photos: Marouane Fellaini hard at work in training with Belgium

Marouane Fellaini has been pictured in good spirits during training with the Belgium side ahead of October’s World Cup qualifiers.

The Belgian’s last Premier League start for Manchester United dates back to the 2-1 defeat at Watford. He did, however, feature in the 1-0 Europa League win over Zorya Luhansk last week.

However, Fellaini is set to start against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Gibraltar in the upcoming week.

The 28-year-old was seen sharing a laugh with team-mates ahead of Belgium’s qualifier against Bosnia on Friday.

For Fellaini, the early stages of this season have been primarily about adaptation. At both international and club level, the Belgian is working under a new manager. In most cases, this wouldn’t be too much of an issue; managers, especially in the modern football climate, often come and go with incredible alacrity, and players just, well, get on with it really.

However, with Fellaini, a player that requires a very particular set of circumstances in order to flourish, the arrival of a new approach and a changed style is worth taking into consideration. And while Jose Mourinho is still searching for the right position for the Belgian within his system, Roberto Martinez has, as shown in Belgium’s recent game against Cyprus, seemingly found a role that enables Fellaini to inflict maximal damage – namely, in behind the striker, surging forward and providing a physical presence up front.

United fans will be keen to see exactly how – or perhaps if – Fellaini fits into Mourinho’s side after the international break.
