Rio Ferdinand has criticised England supporters that booed Wayne Rooney during Saturday’s World Cup qualifying win over Malta.
He was deployed in the deeper role and was booed by a portion of the crowd after a few mistakes on the pitch in the second-half.
After losing his place in Jose Mourinho’s side at Manchester United, he could be set to lose his place in the national squad.
Here’s what Ferdinand had to say.
Its that time again guys…@waynerooney spotlight! Booing at the stadium too…come on guys, booing?? Liberty.

Jordan Henderson was Man of the Match against Malta, while Dele Alli got his name on the scoresheet and Eric Dier could return in Slovenia on Tuesday.
Despite being England’s highest goalscorer with 53 goals, his recent showings have been poor and with others on the side with more to offer he could be set to face the axe.
He has already confirmed he will retire from international duty after the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but it remains to be seen whether he will even be selected to participate in the tournament.
