Interim manager Gareth Southgate insists Jesse Lingard was outstanding following his England debut.
Daniel Sturridge and Dele Alli found the back of the net to contribute to the 2-0 scoreline, but Lingard was heavily involved and created plenty of chances.
He was one of the highlights of the showing and has impressed on his first senior appearance after making a surprising start ahead of Marcus Rashford.
Speaking about his appearance, Southgate claims Lingard did great to show his creativity.
“I’ve got to look at how Slovenia played and see what’s better suited for the game,” he said.
“I think in terms of the decisions we made, Jesse Lingard came in and was outstanding.
“He linked the play really well and showed really good creativity at times. His links with Dele and Danny (Rose) on that side of the pitch were really, really exciting.”
What a night it could have been for the Englishman, he could have easily found the back of the net on his debut and almost found himself an assist with a brilliant ball for Theo Walcott.
It’s a brilliant start for his England career and he’ll be looking to build on his performance moving forward.
