Anthony Martial has been pictured in good spirits with Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry.
The Frenchman has encountered a muted start to life under Jose Mourinho, notably struggling to recreate the blistering form that saw him top United’s list of goal-scorers. However, Mourinho firmly believes Martial’s wonderfully taken goal against Stoke City, his first of the season, will act as a turning point in the youngster’s season.
Martial uploaded a photo of himself and the former Arsenal striker earlier today, adding the caption: “With a legend.”
A great photo of France’s greatest ever striker there, taking the time to pose with Henry. Good to see.
On a serious note, Manchester United fans will hope that Martial’s excellent performance against Stoke – capped off by that wonderful strike – wasn’t just a one off this season but rather a catalyst for a series of storming displays under Mourinho.
The upcoming visit to Anfield acts as the ideal time for Martial to fully announce himself this season to reignite that mazy, intractable brilliance that bamboozled so many defenders last season.
It is a common trait of Mourinho to hand wingers more defensively oriented roles which partially serves as an explanation for Martial’s recent lack of potency. But against Stoke the 53-year-old sent Martial into the fray with the simple task of running at the opposition. The same approach against Jurgen Klopp’s side would, one feels, serve United well.
