Jamie Redknapp believes Paul Pogba will be vital for Manchester United against Liverpool.

After winning their first three games of the season, Jose Mourinho’s side have lost to to Manchester City, Watford and only picked up a draw against Stoke City

They now head into the clash at Anfield on Monday afternoon three points behind their hosts and will be hoping to get the campaign back on track.

Speaking before the game, Redknapp claims Pogba will need to show his brilliance against Liverpool

“I expect their captain Wayne Rooney will be on the bench – and I’m sure he won’t enjoy warming up on the touchline in front of the Liverpool fans! – which means there is a real onus on United’s other star names, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba,” he said.

“United paid a world-record fee for Pogba in the summer and it’s time for him to show what he’s made of and why the club spent over £90m on him.

“He’s shown glimpses of his ability so far and I’ve no doubt he’s going to be a brilliant player for United. But there’s a lot more to come and United will need him when they go into the lion’s den on Monday night. A game when top players must show their character.”

Pogba has come under criticism for not performing since his return to Old Trafford, but he isn’t solely to blame for the team’s losses.

The squad have stumbled as a collective and will need to pick up their game against Jugen Klopp’s in-form Liverpool side.

Mourinho will be hoping to prove his team are back with his first trip to Merseyside as Man United boss.
