Zlatan Ibrahimovic has revealed how Jose Mourinho persuaded him to join Manchester United over the summer transfer window.
The Swede confirmed there were talks under Louis van Gaal last year, but he wasn’t keen on a move to Old Trafford under the Dutchman.
Man United finished fifth last season in the Premier League, resulting in no Champions League this campaign, but the Portuguese boss has still managed to sign some of the biggest names in the game.
Speaking about Mourinho, Ibrahimovic claims his arrival at Man United was enough to change his mind.
“There were talks about me coming to United one year ago, that is correct. But I didn’t believe in it then because it was not the right moment,” he said.
“Then they get the Special One and, when the Special One calls you and when he starts to talk to you, you are already convinced. He didn’t need to talk a lot to convince me.
“It was only enough to call me and say, ‘Listen, I’m waiting for you in Manchester,’ and I was coming.”
Many believed the club wouldn’t attract any big names over the summer without Champions League football, but Mourinho has proven he gets what he wants.
He came to the club with four fundamental signings in mind and did not stop working until they had all arrived at Old Trafford.
Last season we were linked with many big names without results, but now even links with Antoine Griezmann seem a possibility with the Portuguese boss leading the charge.
