Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United: Player ratings

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea 7.5  – No need to do anything in the first 45 minutes apart from a wonderful save from Can. Same thing happened in the second half when Coutinho unleashed a shot. Quiet for him but stood up when necessary.

Antonio Valencia 7  – Thought he was good in that first half, even better in the second – especially for that tackle on Firmino late on.

Chris Smalling 6 – Like Bailly he was not troubled at all in that first 45 minutes and Liverpool were so limp in attack that nothing changed as the game went on.

Eric Bailly 6.5 – Loved the occasion in that first half with Liverpool being so muted in attack and just as confident in the second half.

Daley Blind 6 – Sadio Mane offered nothing so Blind was comfortable for the first half. Same in second.

Marouane Fellaini 6.5 – Helped control the game with Herrera. Not as good but still helping.

Ander Herrera 8.5 – I hope this doesn’t sound like hyperbole but I felt like I was watching a future captain in that first. Controlled the midfield, dominated where necessary and bossed it.

Paul Pogba 6 – Poor first half I think. Really didn’t stamp his identity on it. Didn’t change much in the second half. When is he going to come to life?

Marcus Rashford 5 – Well, that was bad from Marcus wasn’t it? Poor touches and sometimes no touches, the game passed him by in the first 45 minutes. Nothing changed in the second half, he was quiet tonight.

Ashley Young 6 – Didn’t do too much in that first half in attack but defensively he did more than his fair share. Second half nothing changed I’d say.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 6 – Like Pogba, he was ineffective in that first half and the same in the second. Wasted our biggest chance with a wayward header.

Wayne Rooney 6 – Let Milner go twice within his first few minutes on the pitch. Didn’t change the game as he should have when coming on.
