Manchester United 1-0 Man City: Player ratings

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea 6 – He may as well have had a blindfold on to catch some Z’s. City offered nothing tonight.

Luke Shaw 5.5 – Jesus Navas had him on toast in that first half, although his runs forward helped make our best chances. Dramatically improved in the second, well done Shaw.

Marcos Rojo 6 – When he’s one of your best players in the first half you know something is wrong. Never stretched or asked to defend really.

Daley Blind 6 – Wasn’t troubled much in the first half which would have helped him after the Stamford Bridge horror show.

Antonio Valencia 6.5 – Had some drive and coped alright with Man City’s attacks in the first half. Also good in the second, he’s being very consistent at the moment.

Michael Carrick 6 – Game was hardly played through the middle in the first 45 minutes and Carrick rarely had a chance to dictate. Much the same in the second I feel, not that he played bad.

Ander Herrera 7 – At least had some energy in the first half where others were lethargic. Led by example in the second with his pressing and desire to win the ball. Love Ander.

Paul Pogba 6 – Another first 45 minutes which largely passed Pogba by. So much better in the second, a marked improvement.

Juan Mata 7.5 – Linked up well with Herrera in the first half and was our best player in attack even without his goal. Real combination play with Herrera tonight.

Marcus Rashford 5.5 – We expected Rashford to skin a man every time we gave him the ball in the first half – he didn’t, we struggled. When will we stop playing him on the wing? Did skin City a couple of times but he’s wasted out wide.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 5 – That was a putrid first half football from Ibrahimovic, awful. Better in the second and got an assist but still left so much to be desired.

Morgan Schneiderlin 6 – He’s alive! Played well and did his job to solidify that midfield when he came on.
