Manchester United fans were pleased to see Morgan Schneiderlin receive some minutes during their side’s 1-0 win League Cup win over Manchester City on Wednesday night.
The Frenchman, who had hitherto made only three starts this season, was introduced after 73 minutes as Jose Mourinho looked to close out the game.
Alongside Michael Carrick, Schneiderlin produced a characteristically solid, no-nonsense performance against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Man United fans were quick to register their approval of his reintroduction.
Nice to see that Morgan Schneiderlin is alive and well. Should be playing more frequently.

Schneiderlin was good for the 20 minutes he played. Should. Play. Over. Fellaini. Next. Game.

Marouane Fellaini‘s injury, which is set to sideline the Belgian for several weeks, comes as a blessing for Schneiderlin. The 26-year-old has struggled to eclipse the likes of Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera and Fellaini in the midfield pecking order this season, and his cameo against Man City served as a statement of intent, a powerful reminder of what he can bring to the side.
This was, in many ways, a quintessential Schneiderlin performance: ruthless, dedicated, devoted to mastering the ugly side of the game. His overall prowess acted as a stark contrast to the instability delivered by Fellaini on Sunday, and United fans will be keen to see this performance signal the start of a run of games in the first team foe the Frenchman.
