Man United duo Memphis Depay and Daley Blind named Netherlands squad

Memphis Depay and Daley Blind have been named in the Netherlands squad for the upcoming November international break.

Danny Blind’s side will host Belgium on November 9 for a friendly, before travelling to Luxembourg for a World Cup qualifier on the 13.

Both Memphis and Blind featured for the national side in games against France and Belarus earlier this month.

The pair will receive another chance to impress for the Orange after being selected for Blind’s provisional 22-man squad.

Blind’s inclusion comes as no surprise, of course. Not because the manager happens to be his dad, but because life under Jose Mourinho has seen the Dutchman establish himself as a reliable, composed and ultimately fundamental aspect of Manchester United’s back four, continuing – and even improving on – the excellent form he displayed alongside Chris Smalling last season.

Memphis’ inclusion, however, comes as a major surprise. The winger has featured for a grand total of 24 minutes – a largely uneventful cameo against Fenerbahce – since returning from the last international break, and his confidence and place in Mourinho’s pecking order remains as low as ever.

Nevertheless, United fans will hope to see the Dutchman receive some much needed game time with the national side, perhaps restoring some of the form that saw him impress during the early stages of last season.
