Gary Neville dumbstruck by Man United’s ‘bizarre’ 0-0 draw with Burnley

Gary Neville has been left dumbstruck by Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Burnley at Old Trafford.

Man United recorded 37 shots against Burnley which is the most in a game since Opta stats began but a once-in-a-lifetime performance from Tom Heaton saw us unbelievably draw a blank. However, that doesn’t paint the full picture.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s finishing was absolutely atrocious and wouldn’t have looked out of place in a Sunday league game. He missed multiple sitters and even though his playmaking was largely quite good and impressive, we signed him as a goalscorer and without a goal in his last six league appearances, his worst run since 2007, he’s completely underperforming at the moment.

As well as Heaton’s inspired performance and Ibrahimovic’s lacklustre one, United had no luck at all. Juan Mata hit the post, Ibrahimovic hit the crossbar and we can’t not talk about Mark Clattenburg. Usually I try to avoid discussing the referee but you simply can’t ignore it today.

Clattenburg sent off Herrera for slipping, waved away a blatant penalty for United, ignored Flanagan’s handball when he was on a yellow card and in general just made a whole host of awful decisions. When you’re up against it with your luck and the referee, things tend not to go your way.

The result leaves United eight points off top (and eight points above the relegation zone) so to say things aren’t going well at the moment is an understatement and although it’s only October, our title winning credentials are slipping away quite quickly with every dropped point. We’ve only won six points out of our last 21.
