Video: Anthony Martial returns to training with Manchester United

Anthony Martial has returned to training with Manchester United after missing out on last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Burnley through injury.

The Frenchman was left out of the match-day squad for games against Manchester City and Burnley in light of a foot injury sustained following Man United’s 4-0 loss to Chelsea.

Martial, who initially struggled under Jose Mourinho, has displayed signs of a resurgence with goals against Stoke City and Fenerbahce in recent weeks.

The 20-year-old was videoed working hard with the first team at Carrington earlier today.

Most United fans would agree that Zlatan Ibrahimovic, after seven games without a goal, needs some time on the sidelines. Not so much as a punishment, but more as an opportunity to recharge the batteries and go again.

With this in mind, Martial’s reintroduction into the fold is timely. His season has, up until now, been characterised by a failure to fully grasp the tenets of his adapted, Mourinho-esque left-wing role. A chance to impress up-front, with Marcus Rashford – who has made the left-flank his own – and Henrikh Mkhitaryan acting as supporting wingers, would pose a number of problems for any back four.

United’s attack, whilst managing to create chances, has lacked crucial elements of unpredictability and penetration with Ibrahimovic at its masthead. And with that in mind, Martial’s presence would provide some much-needed conviction going forward.
