Bastian Schweinsteiger delighted to be back for Manchester United

Bastian Schweinsteiger is delighted to be back in training with Manchester United after spending two months in isolation at the club.

The German midfielder was frozen out of first-team training by Jose Mourinho who made it clear from the start there wasn’t a position for Schweinsteiger inside his Man United squad this season.

However, following a suspension to Ander Herrera, Mourinho has now re-called Schweinsteiger and brought him back into the first-squad frame. Understandably, Bastian is over the moon at being involved once again.

I think it’s fantastic to have Schweinsteiger back in and around the first-team. He’s a great influence and voice for players to listen to given that he’s won pretty much everything a player can win in football and that sort of leadership behind the scenes can’t be underestimated in its importance.

That being said, I do find this whole situation with Mourinho and Schweinsteiger very strange now. I completely understood Jose not wanting Bastian in his squad if he didn’t like him as a player, that’s a simple footballing decision and players always come and go when a new manager comes in. However, for Mourinho to re-call Schweinsteiger simply off the back of Herrera being suspended, presuming that’s the reason, makes the justification to freeze the German midfielder out a bit fickle if you ask me.

Maybe there is an altogether more logical reasoning behind Schweinsteiger’s return, maybe Jose and him have settled their differences, maybe he’s simply being allowed to train so he can be sold in January – who knows, but for the time being let’s just be happy that the Deutscher Fussball Meister is back amongst it.
