David De Gea 6 – Had hardly anything to do against a confidence-sapped Swansea attack.
Matteo Darmian 7.5 – Wonderfully composed at left-back; comfortable dealt with the potentially dangerous Wayne Routledge and provided plenty of impetus going forward
Marcos Rojo 7 – A comfortable game from start to finish for the Argentine. Totally untroubled by the physically imposing Fernando Llorente.
Phil Jones 8 – Formed the unbreakable core of a back-line that was met with widespread scepticism prior to the game. Amazingly composed for someone making their first appearance since January.
Ashley Young 7.5 – Put in a characteristically dedicated, energetic and reliable performance at left-back, staking a real claim for more starting XI opportunities in the coming weeks.
Michael Carrick 9 – The heartbeat of absolutely everything for Jose Mourinho’s men: 21 men danced to the beat of his drum. A truly magnificent display of complete dominance from the 35-year-old.
Paul Pogba 8 – Carrick’s presence gave the Frenchman license to burst forward, and it reaped devastating results. An absolute wonder-strike crowned an emphatic midfield performance.
Marouane Fellaini 7 – Looked bold and powerful on his return. Moved the ball smartly and contributed to attacking movements. Faded slightly as the game went on.
Juan Mata 7 – A subtle but ultimately fundamental component of a convincing attacking performance; composed and enterprising on the ball going forward. Missed a good chance late on after some good work from Rooney.
Wayne Rooney 7 – Hard-working, selfless and tidy in possession: a true captain’s performance. His influence diminished as the game went on.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic 8 – Responded to his ‘Einstein’ critics in emphatic fashion with a ruthless performance in front of goal.
