Peter Schmeichel: Jose Mourinho has to play Michael Carrick more often

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has urged Jose Mourinho to play Michael Carrick more often after another impressive performance against Swansea on Sunday.

It was only Carrick’s second Premier League appearance of the season and his first showing as a starter.

He has been used in the EFL Cup, the Europa League and the Community Shield, but his impressive performances have earned him a place in the Premier League squad.

Speaking after the game, Schmeichel insists Carrick was running the show against Swansea.

“We look a different, more confident side with Carrick in midfield,” he said.

“Carrick is running the show, Mourinho must play him whenever he is fit. Gives players like Zlatan [Ibrahimoivc], Pogba and [Wayne] Rooney more space and better options.”

United have won all six games Carrick has played in and he’s starting to prove it’s much more than just a simple coincidence.

He dictates play from the midfield and Mourinho should use him as much as possible as it could be his final season at Old Trafford, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.

Mourinho’s men need to pick up where they’ve left off after the international break and with their first fixture against Arsenal on November 19, Carrick deserves to have a big role.
