Manchester United vs Arsenal: Jose Mourinho’s strongest XI

by Sam Peoples

I’m not sure Jose Mourinho has actually started his best Manchester United team yet this season and with so many players unavailable for Arsenal he can’t do it on Saturday either.

That being said, I do feel we can field a very strong team to play Arsenal even if we’ve got the likes of Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Zlatan Ibrahimovic missing.

Here’s the strongest XI I think Mourinho could start:

There’s real intent in this team and although he has looked out of form in the last few games, Luke Shaw is likely to be crucial in defending Arsenal’s fluid attack. Marcos Rojo up against Alexis Sanchez or Theo Walcott scares me, so I hope he doesn’t start.

The inclusion of Juan Mata I feel is just as important because we’ll need something further up the pitch who is capable of holding the ball up and bringing teammates into play. As much as we need to hit on the counter-attack, we’ll need to keep possession where possible which is also why Michael Carrick starts in this side too.

Mourinho may well start Marouane Fellaini and try to shut up shop like we did away at Anfield but I don’t think that suits us at Old Trafford, not with the players we’ve got available, and I’d like to see us attack a bit more. Maybe that’s wishful thinking.
