Manchester United fans were left unimpressed following Anthony Martial‘s lacklustre performance during their side’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Frenchman, left out of Didier Deschamps’ France side for recent internationals, was given a chance to impress on the left hand side against a potentially vulnerable Carl Jenkinson, with Hector Bellerin sidelined through injury.
But Martial, aside from the occasional smart piece of link up play, failed to take advantage of a potential weak spot in Arsenal’s back four.
Man United fans were quick to vent their frustration with the 20-year-old.
Martial 5/10. Bad game as he is still searching for his form of last season. Few things he tried came off

Quite disappointed with Martial however, looks low on confidence & isn't the same as last season. Mikhy needs to start over him

The 20-year-old’s indifferent start to the season was, for some time, down to Mourinho’s demands of a winger. Suddenly Martial was charged with the responsibility of tracking back and adopting particular positions alongside central midfielders, cutting infield as opposed to bursting down the outside.
However, with United desperate for a win, Mourinho abandoned this particular dynamic and asked his team to go for the jugular. But Martial, clearly bereft of confidence, was a blunt object – illustrated in glaring fashion by the immediate improvement Marcus Rashford brought to the left hand side after he took the Frenchman’s place.
Mourinho now faces a tricky call: does he take Martial out of the firing line, giving him a chance to recuperate and go again, or does he continue to give him chances to impress, hoping that, at some point, he strikes the right chord? Only time will tell.
