Jose Mourinho: This is what Henrikh Mkhitaryan needs to do next at Man United

Jose Mourinho has claimed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan needs to replicate the levels of brilliance he displayed against Feyenoord in the Premier League.

It was revealed by Mourinho earlier this week that Mkhitaryan was struggling to deal with the pressures of being a Man United player.

However, the Armenian made his first start since September 10 against Feyenoord and dazzled the watching world with a truly sumptuous display.

The 53-year-old, speaking after the game, urged Mkhitaryan to reproduce that level of performance when United return to Premier League action.

“He just needs now to try to replicate this type of performance in Premier League,” he said.

“He needs one more step.”

This was the kind of performance that even had rival fans talking. Watching Mkhitaryan – consigned to anonymity for so long at Old Trafford – glide across the pitch with reckless abandon, creating and exploiting space in equal measure, it felt as if Mourinho had acquired a new player.

The Armenian, making just his fifth appearance in a United signing, provided something completely different. His presence emboldened and refined every attacking movement, giving Mourinho’s men a more clinical, ruthless edge.

Such an influence would have been invaluable against the likes of Stoke City, Burnley and Arsenal, and United fans will be desperate to see the Armenian receive more game time in the coming weeks.
