Man United fans critical of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s performance against Feyenoord

Manchester United fans were disappointed with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s performance during their side’s 4-0 win over Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Swede, restored to the starting XI after missing the 1-1 draw with Arsenal through suspension, made a sluggish start, often losing the ball with his back to goal, before spurning several chances as the floodgates opened in the second half.

Man United fans were quick to criticise the 35-year-old’s inability to finish chances against Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

This was, no doubt, one of Zlatan’s less refined performances. His touch was occasionally off, his first time passes often finding Feyenoord players instead. His failure to impose himself in front of goal also provided cause for concern.

And yet, even when performing at a notably subpar standard, the Swede still managed to claim an assist and forge a Brad Jones own goal. This, I believe, is the true hallmark of a top talent: an ability to create game-changing moments at any time, even when performing poorly.

That said, United fans will hope to see a more clinical version of Zlatan when United come up against stronger opposition in the coming months. The Premier League rarely produces strikers with a catalogue of chances, and the 35-year-old will need to be ruthless in front of goal.
