Bastian Schweinsteiger reacts to his return after Man United 1-1 West Ham

Bastian Schweinsteiger has remained optimistic about his chances after he was named in Sunday’s Premier League squad against West Ham after eight months.

Reports claim Michael Carrick had sustained an injury before the game, enabling Schweinsteiger, who only returned to training with the first-team a month ago, the opportunity to make a return to the matchday squad.

His chances are even higher next week with Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini also suspended for West Ham’s return in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.

He took to social media after Sunday’s Premier League draw and tweeted: “The team showed a good performance. Unfortunately, we couldn’t reward ourselves at the end! Let’s move on and look forward to the next game!”

He was frozen out from Mourinho’s squad after he took over in May and was told to train with the reserves, but it’s brilliant to see him back in the fold with the senior team.

Bastian is still expected to leave the club in January and his return to the first-team seems to be a ploy to increase his price while he attracts interest from MLS side Chicago Fire.

It’ll be a big moment for him if he manages to make it back into the first-team and if he impresses the Portuguese boss when he receives his opportunity, there’s a good chance he’ll pick up some minutes.
