Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is hopeful of sealing a deal for Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez in January, according to reports.
The 21-year-old has allegedly been identified by the Portuguese boss as a potential parter for Eric Bailly at the centre of Man United’s defence.
He has experienced a rapid rise into Altetico’s team under Diego Simeone, but with 18 months to run on his current deal, Mourinho may be looking to tempt him away from Vicente Calderon.
ESPN’s Miguel Delaney claims Atletico are willing to listen to offers for his services and could look to cash in on a fee in the January transfer window.
United have had plenty of problems this season, but what needs to be fixed immediately is our carelessness in front of goal, as we’ve only converted three goals in 91 shots at home against Stoke City, Burnley, Arsenal and West Ham.
However, Gimenez’s arrival would undoubtedly bolster our squad and I wouldn’t be against a move, especially with our inconsistencies among the current back line.
Atletico would want a fee of between €40 million and €50 million for Gimenez and it remains to be seen whether Mourinho will want to commit to snapping up the Uruguayan’s services.
