Henrikh Mkhitaryan trains ahead of EFL Cup tie with West Ham

Henrikh Mkhitaryan could well make this third appearance for Manchester United in the space of a week when West Ham visit Old Trafford once again on Wednesday in the EFL Cup quarter-final.

Having made only his second start of the season in our game with Feyenoord in the Europa League where he shone, Mkhitaryan was also used as a substitute in the 1-1 against West Ham on Wednesday and fans are keen to see him feature in as many games as possible now.

Ahead of West Ham on Wednesday, Mkhitaryan trained with the full squad at Carrington:

It’s been a rocky few months for Mkhitaryan since he joined from Borussia Dortmund but that performance against Feyenoord was the sort we’ve all been waiting to see. He was mint; Feyenoord couldn’t stop him and he was given a standing ovation from the Old Trafford crowd, deservedly so.

Jose Mourinho decided not to start him against West Ham on Sunday but I’d be surprised if he wasn’t in the starting XI on Wednesday because we’re one win away from a two legged semi-final, so Mourinho will clearly play a strong team and I expect Mkhitaryan to be part of that.

What I saw from Mkhitaryan against Feyenoord was a player who is ready to fight for his place and somebody who has the quality to start for us every week, just like we knew he did. Now it’s up to Mourinho to make that happen.
