Henrikh Mkhitaryan speaks out about his Manchester United summer transfer

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has revealed that Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward personally contacted him to try and complete a summer transfer.

Man United signed the Armenian for £26.3million from Borussia Dortmund in July following an outstanding campaign under Thomas Tuchel at the Westfalenstadion.

Following a difficult start to life in England, Mkhitaryan has recently begun to find his feet with two man of the match performances against Feyenoord and West Ham.

Speaking about his situation, the Armenian has opened up about his summer move.

“Last summer, my agent [Mino Raiola] called me and said that Manchester United was interested in signing me. It took me by surprise,” he said.

“I said, ‘Is it real? Or is it just speculation?’ When your dreams are close to coming true, it does not feel real at first.

“A few days later, Manchester United’s interest was confirmed when I got a call from Ed Woodward, their executive director. He told me that the club was indeed interested in me. You can imagine how excited I was by that possibility!

“While my agent and the club were negotiating the transfer, I had time to consider my options. I knew it would be a challenge to leave a good situation at Dortmund and succeed at United, but I did not want to sit in my chair as an old man and have any regrets. I was ready to move.

“When the deal was done and dusted, I sat down to sign the contract with United and that’s when it hit me… that’s when I realised that this big move to the Premier League was really happening.

“I will never forget that moment, nor will I forget the time I put on the red Manchester United shirt before my first training session with the club. It made me feel so happy and proud about what I had achieved in my career.”

Mkhitaryan hasn’t received the right opportunities to showcase his talent at Old Trafford, but after impressing the Portuguese boss and supporters, has made a brilliant case for cementing his place in the starting XI.

United look dangerous with the Armenian on the pitch and hopes are we see him in action once again when the side play Everton on December 4.
