Benfica and Sweden centre-back Victor Lindelof’s agent, Hakan Cetinkaya, has revealed that the 22-year-old could make a move to Manchester United in the January transfer window.
It was revealed earlier this week that Jose Mourinho was leading the race to secure the hotly-pursued youngster’s signature.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who played alongside Lindelorf at Euro 2016, heaped praise on his fellow countryman, predicting a big future for the defender.
Cetinkaya, speaking to Record earlier this week, claimed that Man United could complete a deal with Lindelorf next month.
“The transfer window isn’t open yet, but Victor is already very much in demand,” he said.
“As a result, I’ve scheduled interviews with some of the biggest clubs in Europe to talk about his future.
“The most important thing is for the deal to be done at the right moment. But I’m optimistic. There’s a good chance he’ll leave the club this winter. If not, it’ll be next summer.
“I think Victor is doing great things, he is playing good for Benfica, he gets a lot of responsibility for the national team now, he is growing.
“Is he good enough for United? I think he’s good enough for the big clubs out there. It’s up to him what he wants. Whatever he chooses will be good for him.”
The Swede – or ‘The Iceman’, as he is often called – has progressed at an astonishing rate since making his senior club debut at the age of 19 in 2013. Initially, of course, he was reduced to sporadic appearances, before eventually cementing himself as an indispensable regular for both club and country.
He may only have 26 club appearances to his name, but anybody who watches Lindelorf in action will tell you that Benfica is a mere stepping stone for greater things.
United fans will hope that, amongst the number of clubs determined to secure Lindelorf’s services, the youngster picks Old Trafford as his next destination.
