Jose Mourinho has explained why Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan started against Everton in the Premier League.

The pair played a massive part in Manchester United’s 4-1 victory over West Ham United in the EFL Cup and have been selected to play once again.

They’ve both suffered shaky starts to the season, but are vital players to our squad and there’s no doubt that once they’ve found their feet under the Portuguese boss, will play a big role in the side.

Speaking before the game, Mourinho has hailed their ability to get the ball into attacking areas.

“My selection isn’t about players, it’s about the characteristics of the match,” he said.

“Mkhitaryan and Martial are faster at distributing the ball into the attacking areas as well as getting in behind.

“Everybody is playing well, Mata is playing well, Martial is playing well. It isn’t about that, it’s about the game.”

Mkhitaryan and Martial inject a big attacking threat into our squad and with both of them on the pitch, chances and goals will indubitably follow.

They played well and performed for United but it was another case of an unlucky showing for the side.
