Jose Mourinho has explained why Manchester United must win their Thursday night clash against Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League.
One point would see them qualify to the knockout stages of the competition, but a victory would see them top Group A.
Following a 4-0 victory over Feyenoord last week, Mourinho’s men will be rearing to go and they’ll want to exit the group stages as leaders.
Speaking before the game, Mourinho understands it’ll be an important match up.
“The first game was difficult for us and it was also very difficult for Zorya,” he said.
“I think tomorrow is more of the same. We know this is a crucial match for us. If we lose then we can be out, and we don’t want that. Zorya are out but they have a match to play. I believe they will try to win.
“We are going in the same direction. We assumed from the beginning that this is an important competition for us. It is difficult because we play Thursday and then Sunday. We are never given a Monday match to have one more day to rest and prepare. It is difficult to play together. But we want to try to win it and while we are in the competition will try to win it. We want to go as far as possible, step by step. The first step is to qualify from a very difficult group.
The most important competition is always the next match, so today I say the most important competition is the Europa League and tomorrow I will say the most important competition is the Premier League.”
It’s a tough place to go for a win, especially taking our away record into consideration in European fixtures, however, the side will be aiming for nothing less.
Hopes are we can keep the campaign on the right track, especially as Premier League results have not gone as planned.
