Henrikh Mkhitaryan: Manchester United are still in Premier League title race

Henrikh Mkhitaryan believes Manchester United can still win the Premier League this season.

Jose Mourinho’s men have only managed two league wins since August, leaving them 13 points adrift of leaders Chelsea.

Most pundits, including Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville, have dismissed Man United’s title credentials for this season.

However Mkhitaryan, who produced another mesmerising performance against Zorya Luhansk on Thursday, believes Man United can still reach top spot in May.

“Never say never, anything is possible,” he said.

“I remember once Manchester United were ahead of Manchester City by eight points and ended up losing it, so everything is possible in this life.

“We have to start winning, and not drawing the games, that’s the most important thing.

“It’s always a pity to lose or draw at the end of the game, it’s always painful. But we have to accept that it’s our mistake and move forward.

“When we’re leading during the game, we have to squeeze the opponent. Our players understand their mistakes, me too, but we have to keep thinking together, and the good results will be ahead.”

United’s current predicament is pretty simple: they can either continue in similar fashion to recent weeks, producing promising performances whilst failing to win, and consequently remain in relative obscurity until May; on the other hand, Mourinho’s men could start to capitalise on their continued domination in the Premier League and put together a string of wins over the busy Christmas period.

A winning run, especially in the Premier League’s chaotic, ever-oscilliating climate, could see Mourinho’s men suddenly climb up the table as the season’s business end approaches, perhaps paving the way for a unlikely late title challenge.
