Jose Mourinho has included Bastian Schweinsteiger in Manchester United’s travelling squad to face Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
It marks the continuation of Schweinsteiger’s reintegration back into Man United’s squad and also raises further questions about other players if the Manchester Evening News is indeed correct about the players who are in the squad.
Here is the travelling squad as per Manchester Evening News:
De Gea, Romero, Johnstone, Fosu-Mensah, Darmian, Jones, Bailly, Rojo, Blind, Herrera, Carrick, Pogba, Fellaini, Schweinsteiger, Mata, Lingard, Young, Ibrahimovic, Rooney, Rashford
Once again there is no mention of Memphis Depay or Morgan Schneiderlin who both look like they are being frozen out of the squad by Mourinho. As well as that, there is no return of Chris Smalling or Luke Shaw from injury but the inclusion of Timothy Fosu-Mensah is another welcome boost for fans who are keen to see him integrated further into the team.
A notable absentee is Anthony Martial. Now, I don’t know if this down to the fact that he wasn’t spotted or that he didn’t travel but he was fit to start against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
All in all, that’s a strong squad and Eric Bailly’s name puts a big smile on my face. Here’s hoping Martial is fit to play because he was ace in the first half against Spurs but other than that I don’t have many concerns about this squad at all.
That being said, it’s sad not seeing Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s name because he’s made such a difference and without him in the team I am struggling to see much quality on the wings, especially as there is no Martial earlier.
