Manchester United set to receive £24m for Morgan Schneiderlin – report

Everton are set to launch a £24m bid for Morgan Schneiderlin in the upcoming transfer window, according to reports.

The Frenchman, who hasn’t made a Premier League start under Jose Mourinho this season, has been subject to interest from Ronald Koeman – the man responsible for selling him to Man United back in 2015 – for a number of weeks.

Schneiderlin’s last start dates back to United’s 2-1 defeat to Fenerbahce all the way back in early November.

And according to the Telegraph‘s James Ducker and John Percy, Koeman is willing to offer Mourinho £24m for the midfielder’s services in January.

With Michael Carrick, Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and even Bastian Schweinsteiger – once again included in the match day squad against Crystal Palace – all seemingly ahead of Schneiderlin in the pecking order under Mourinho, it feels as if a move away from Old Trafford would make sense for the Frenchman.

Then again, it is worth pointing to the stories of both Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo this season. They, much like Schneiderlin, lingered on the periphery of proceedings at Old Trafford for some time this season, but they worked tirelessly, uninterested by the prospect of a move elsewhere, and forced their way into the starting XI – demonstrating that even fringe players can make a difference under Mourinho.

Schneiderlin, therefore, finds himself in a ‘stick or twist’ situation, and United fans will be keen to see what he decides when January arrives.
