It was reported over the summer that Valencia, after losing Shkodran Mustafi to Arsenal, were keen on luring the Argentine to the Mestalla.
Rojo, despite being on the fringes of Jose Mourinho’s squad at the time, chose to remain at Old Trafford over the summer.
But according to Di Marzio, Valencia – currently languishing in 17th spot – are keen on making another bid for the 27-year-old in an attempt to shore up their back line.
With new signing Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Daley Blind all ahead of Rojo in the pecking order over the summer, it felt as if a move to Spain – even on a loan basis – would be a smart move for the Argentine.
But both Rojo and Mourinho, it turned out, were on the same page: the defender was important to Mourinho, and Rojo wanted to impress the new boss. And after a spell of almost complete anonymity (Rojo didn’t start a Premier League game until late October), the 27-year-old is now reaping the rewards for his persistence with a string of games in the first team.
