Dean Saunders outlines what Manchester United can expect from Victor Lindelof

Former Wales and Benfica striker Dean Saunders has outlined what Manchester United can expect from transfer target Victor Lindelof.

Reports from Portugal earlier this month claimed that the Benfica defender was set to complete a €45m move to Old Trafford in January.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who played alongside the 22-year-old at Euro 2016, has heaped praise on Lindelof, predicting a big future for the youngster.

And Saunders, speaking on Sky Sports earlier today, reflected similar sentiments concerning the highly sought after.

“He’s a top player,” he said.

“He’s been one of the top players in the Champions League. He catches the eye, reads the game well, [he’s] quick, he’ll only add to their squad. They’ve got a brilliant squad.”

It is worth noting that Lindelof is just as comfortable as a central defender as he is at right back. The youngster, after all, was named as a right back in the “Team of the Tournament” following the under-21 European Championship in 2015 – a tournament that Sweden won.

Jose Mourinho has seemingly placed emphasis on strengthening at both right back and centre back in recent months, and Lindelof competently fits both roles: powerful, strong, an aggressive tackler and comfortable moving forward with the ball. He is, above anything, a presence on the pitch. His positioning and overall awareness can occasionally come under question, but at the age of 22 he is still learning, and working under Mourinho would have a huge influence on his development.
