Victor Lindelof has been named in UEFA’s breakthrough team of the year for 2016 after an excellent campaign with SL Benfica.

Lindelof played every minute of Benfica’s Champions League games and although they failed to qualify for the knockout stages, his performances didn’t go unnoticed by UEFA who included him in defence alongside Barcelona pair Samuel Umtiti and Sergi Roberto.

Many Manchester United fans had never heard of Lindelof before the reports over the last two weeks linked him with a move to Old Trafford in January and if Jose Mourinho is to bring somebody in during the next month it looks like Lindelof is who will be joining.

If Lindelof were to sign, it would bring another hot prospect into a defence which has plenty already in the ranks such as Eric Bailly (22), Luke Shaw (21) and Timothy Fosu-Mensah (18). As far as building a team for the future goes, Lindelof falls into that bracket.

Things are on the up for United at the moment following an upturn in form which is definitely building confidence among fans and players. The arrival of another top European talent would certainly only build that momentum further and as his inclusion in UEFA’s team shows, Lindelof is one who plenty already have their eye on.
