Bastian Schweinsteiger has expressed his gratitude towards Manchester United fans for their support throughout 2016.
The German was initially consigned to training alone under Jose Mourinho, with the Portuguese making it clear that the midfielder was not part of his plans at Man United.
However, after several months of anonymity, Schweinsteiger did forge his way back into the first team and made his first appearance of the season against West Ham United in the League Cup last month.
Schweinsteier took to Instagram to share a warm message with supporters after what has been a difficult year for the 32-year-old.
United fans will be curious to see how the German’s career pans out over the next month or so. He could have his heart set on a move to the MLS, with several sides – Chicago Fire are the apparent front-runners – expressing an interest. Such a move would make sense: a slower pace, more game time, more recognition, and nicer surroundings.
On the other hand, Schweinsteiger could choose to fully commit himself to Mourinho and United, working hard in an attempt to forge his way into the first team. The impending departure of Morgan Schneiderlin to Everton, alongside Marouane Fellaini‘s recent lapse, could act as an important incentive.
